The Normalized Brodatz Texture (NBT) database is an improvement of the Brodatz texture database using a normalization process that eliminated the grayscale background effect. Unlike the original Brodatz texture images where a dominant mean intensity could be identified, the histograms of the normalized images occupy the entire 256 gray-level range with a fairly uniform distribution. It is impossible to discriminate between these textures using only first order statistics. The use of texture information is necessary to discriminate between these normalized texture images.
