The 112 texture images given in the Brodatz album have different background intensities. The figure above gives an example of six different Brodatz textures organized into two sets: D109, D61, and D10 (top row); and D64, D95, and D75 (bottom row). For example, D109 has a black background whereas D61 and D10 have gray and white backgrounds, respectively. Some of these texture images could be discriminated using only the background intensity (i.e., first-order statistics) without using texture information. The figures below give the histograms with which they are associated. These textures had localized modes, and it was possible to discriminate between them with fairly significant accuracy using only their histograms (i.e., background intensity, without using texture information). To improve this database we introduced the
NBT database.
